Choosing an electric toothbrush is a great and easy way to keep your teeth whiter and your gum healthier. Indeed, there are several advantages to using an electric toothbrush. First, they are user-friendly and simply do the work for you. Also, several studies have shown that they tend to be more effective than manual toothbrushes. One of the reasons is because they allow you to put the right amount of bristle pressure on each tooth. Moreover, electric toothbrushes tend to have smaller heads than manual toothbrushes, which allow you to reach harder to reach areas, areas that tend to be neglected when using a manual toothbrush. Also, because they use a precise mechanism and system, the electric toothbrush won’t hurt the gum, and reduce bleeding and gum injuries.
However, it is important to remember that not all electric toothbrush work as equally well. There are a few things to consider before buying one. Also, just like for manual toothbrushes, it is important to change their head every three months, to ensure they maximal efficiency. Round heads, square heads, it is really just a matter of preference.
The only downsize of an electric toothbrush is that the are much pricier than regular toothbrushes. The toothbrush itself (not the head), usually needs to be changed every 2 to 3 years.

If you are still using an Oral-B manual toothbrush, once you will have tried the Oral-B Pro Care SmartSeries 5000, chances are that you will feel like you had just fell from the stone age to the 21st century.
The Oral-B uses an oscillating and pulsating motion, which brings make them superior to most electric toothbrushes. Because they tend to have much smaller brushes, people with smaller mouth or children may prefer using an Oral-B over a Philips Sonicare (square or rectangular brush head). The toothbrush also has a pressure sensor, that will stop the toothbrush if too much pressure is applied against the tooth or the gum. One of the greatest feature of the Oral-B is that their quadrant timer which breaks into 30 seconds intervals for a total of 2 minutes of brushing and which can be used as an unobtrusive bathroom clock when not in use. The toothbrush itself will make a short pulse at the 2 minutes mark to let you know that brushing time is over, and funny smiley face will appear on the screen on the timer.

They use the sonic technology, which, according to Philips Sonicare, creates a high speed bristle motion, hence providing a more powerful cleaning action while remaining gentle. If you have used the Philips Sonicare FlexCare previously, you will notice some good upgrades from the previous model. Waterpik Sensonic Professional Toothbrush
.
If investing more than $100 in a toothbrush is not an option for you, the Waterpik Sensonic Professional Toothbrush may be what you are looking for. This electric toothbrush also uses a sonic technology, and offer superior brushing than regular toothbrushes less expensive electric toothbrushes. Just like the two other brands, Waterpik has a built-in 2 minutes timer with a 30 seconds quad pacer.
To my opinion, the best feature of the Waterpik Sensonic is something not typically found on other types of electric toothbrushes. The Waterpik uses two different types of brush heads, the standard one, similar to that of a Sonicare brush head, and the interdental brush head, a specialized brush that will effectively clean between your teeth.
Overall, the Waterpik provides great cleaning, and is much more affordable than the high-end Sonicare and Oral-B models, while offering a nice addition, the interdental brush head.
Advantage:
Interdental brush head
Affordable
