For years, I’ve been fighting the dark thick hair of mine. I tried everything and endured years of shaving, with the results of terrible razor burns, and the hair growing back even thicker. Waxing did a fairly good job, but the cost of strips or going to the salon were horrifying as the bills were quickly adding up, plus I just hated how time consuming it was. After doing a lot of research and asking for some advices from my friends, I decided to give the Braun Silk Epil Soft Perfection Epilator a try. It was well priced and had received very good reviews.
So, here I am, almost a year into using my electric epilator, and these are my findings.
I use this device everywhere there is hair! Obviously on my legs, but also on my underarms, my bikini line and even my big toes! It is very satisfying to know that, after a single and quick use, my body feels soft like baby skin, and is free of hair and stubble for no less than 2 weeks!
Pain
I have to admit that the first few times I used the machine, it hurt to the point where I even considered giving it away to my sister and going back to good old shaving… But a few reviews encouraged me to give the machine a few more tries. I am glad I did because, after a few sessions, the pain was barely noticeable on my legs and armpits, although it does still hurts when I do my bikini line. I have one tip for you if you are brave enough to use the machine on your bikini line: take a big breath and just do it. If your pain threshold is known to be very low, you may want to withhold doing the bikini line, and even the underarms.
Attachments
The epilator comes with massaging rollers, which do an amazing job at reducing the pain in more sensitive areas. I have tried the machine without the attachments and found that it epilated better this way, so I stopped using the attachments overall for the legs and forearms. In more sensitive areas, I still prefer to use the attachments to avoid nicks.
Ingrown hairs
I’ve read a few reviews about girls having problems with ingrown hair when epilating. Here’s a tip: make sure to exfoliate your legs on a regular basis. Buy a pumice stone and scrub hard! I’ve been exfoliating and never have had problems with ingrown hairs.
Touch up
You may miss a few hair and may have to do some touch up once in a while. But nothing compared to a full session of waxing or shaving.
Bottom line, this machine is great. It keeps my skin soft for longer than when I shave, and doesn’t leave the mess waxing does. Make sure to stretch your skin area where you are passing your epilator over to avoid nicks. The machine is quite loud, but overall, worth every penny. I love this thing!
